Although being a parent is arguably the most important thing we do in our lives, a child comes with no instruction manual. In this workshop you will be introduced to three basic fundamentals of parenting, a child’s four basic needs, the #1 rule of parenting, how to truly love your child so he/she fully receives your love, why a system of rewards and punishments doesn’t work – and what does work, a child’s two profound fears, why so many children are angry and what to do about it, and, some useful parenting techniques. 15. #MANAGING YOU IN 2011. Sponsored by Kellam Construction, www.kellaminc.com

Ed Turi, Vice President, Business Development Consultant, Right Management, Indianapolis.
Our pace is rushed, rapid fire and relentless. Facing crushing workloads, we try to cram as much as possible into every day. Typical time management strategies that we have been taught do not work in our current environment. We need to learn new and better ways to manage and motivate ourselves.  Attendees will learn the key is managing their energy instead of their time.  In his bestseller, The Power of Full Engagement, co-author and Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of the Human Performance Institute, Dr. Jim Loehr, demonstrated that managing energy, not time, is the key to enduring high performance as well as to health, happiness and life balance.  The number of hours in a day is fixed, but the quantity and quality of energy available to us is not. Attendees will discover:  how to mobilize four key sources of energy, how to create rituals that lead to higher energy recovery, and ways to expand their capacity for energy.  The Power of Full Engagement approach is a highly practical, scientifically based approach grounded in over twenty-five years of work with some of the world’s greatest performers in business, law enforcement, medicine and sport to help them perform more effectively under brutal pressures. No less than 16 number ones in the world in their sport have trained with the Human Performance Institute.  During the past decade, dozens of Fortune 500 companies have learned this system.

Wendy Spitznagel, Community Wellness Director, YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne.
Mary Schaeffer, RD, CD, CDE is the Nutritional Care Center Leader at Wabash County Hospital With 67% of the adult American population considered obese, type 2 diabetes has become an epidemic.  1 in 3 Americans are currently pre-diabetic, whether they know it or not.  Without lifestyle intervention, those with pre-diabetes will develop type 2 diabetes in 7 to 10 years.  By making positive behavior changes in healthier eating, increasing activity and group support, those at risk can take control and eliminate or delay the onset of this disease.  Moreover, if you or a loved one have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it is crucial to learn the importance of how to successfully manage your daily routine. The YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program is based on the landmark program funded by the National Institute of Health (NID) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). The program has proven that by eating healthier, increasing physical activity and losing a small amount of weight, a person with pre-diabetes can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.
