Sponsored by Thomas J. Guthrie, DDS. Family Dentistry, tjg_guthriedental@sbcglobal.net and Wells Fargo
Dan Reed, MA, Associate Faculty, Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne
Although being a parent is arguably the most important thing we do in our lives, a child comes with no instruction manual. As Nobel Peace Prize Nominee and author of Parent Effectiveness Training Dr. Thomas Gordon notes, "Parents are blamed but not trained." We still depend on parenting methods used twenty years ago that don't always work. However, with some training, parents can become experts themselves in dealing with the inevitable problems that come up in all parent-child relationships. Learn three basic fundamentals of parenting, a child's four basic needs, the #1 rule of parenting, how to truly love your child so he/she fully receives your love, why a system of rewards and punishments doesn't work – and what does work, a child's two profound fears, why so many children are angry and what to do about it, and, some useful parenting techniques. |

#LEADERSHIP IN THE DIGITAL AGE: HOW TO SURVIVE AND THRIVE IN HIGH VELOCITY AND UNCERTAIN TIMES. Crystal Room ( lower level, west)
Sponsored by Halderman Farm Management Serv., howardh@halderman.com and Learn More Center
Brian Gray, CEO, MediaSauce, Indianapolis
MediaSauce is the second multi-million dollar business Bryan has built from scratch. Beginning with just one person in 2003, MediaSauce has grown to 35+ strong, with revenues up 3,760% over the last five years. MediaSauce recently appeared in Inc. Magazine's annual list of the nation's fastest-growing privately-owned businesses; and is the 15th fastest growing media company in the United States. Over the past few years, there have been irreversible changes in the way we connect, engage, and convert our stakeholders to action. The exponential growth in the broadband pipeline, the movement of information from paper to screens, and the change from a one-way communication push to an interconnected conversation has transformed our world. If online has accelerated the rate of change, and is the means to our future, how can we keep up with this moving target? Organizations will learn how to embrace this environment and rise to the top, or continue to do what is familiar and will risk heading down the path to irrelevancy. In this general session we will cover both the challenge and the opportunities at hand. You will learn how to lead your organizations forward in such high velocity and uncertain times, how your brand and message will remain relevant and the changes necessary to effectively drive your business development efforts. |

SABBATH THERAPY: HOW WE MAKE THE CONCEPT OF REST TEDIOUS. Charley Creek Inn
Sponsored by Honeywell Center/Eugenia's, aharting@honeywellcenter.org and Escape Youngevity
Dr. Dan Allender
We often deal with harried and exhausted clients who we encourage to take more breaks and create more margins in their life. More often than not, this is similar to offering aspirin to a cancer patient rather than asking them to undergo the severe mercy of cancer treatment. Our addictions need something other than amelioration; we need to call people to the radical authenticity of the First Commandment and address obvious and unseen idolatry. Freedom from idolatry is found in the radical gift of the Sabbath. |

SABBATH LEADERSHIP: TAKING THE DRIVEN OUT OF YOUR PURPOSEFUL LIFE Charley Creek Inn
Sponsored by Tree of Life, ncampbell@tolbookstores.com darrencampbell@mac.com
Dr. Dan Allender
We are too apt to worry and work when we are called to wonder and worship. We are driven and empty rather than rested and responsive to the prompting of God. What we lose in the midst of our exhaustion is the capacity to create and to play. The magic is gone and method reigns and the result is more necessity to push ahead rather than to feel God blow his breath into our sails. Why would we settle for such a task master life when Jesus says his yoke is easy and his burden is light? We will focus on the issue of fear/envy/and sabotage as the prime movers of a life of labor rather than a model of Sabbath leadership. |
